What is mehndi?
Mehndi is the South Asian art of decorating skin with henna paste — a temporary stain that lasts one to three weeks. Worn for weddings, festivals, and everyday adornment, it ranges from a single line on a finger to a full bridal pattern from wrist to fingertip. My Mehndi Designs is a curated archive: every design has a name, a recipe, and tags for minutes-to-apply, skill, and occasion.
Common questions
What is mehndi? +
Mehndi is a temporary body art made from a paste of dried, ground leaves of the henna plant (Lawsonia inermis). The paste leaves a reddish-brown stain that lasts roughly one to three weeks.
How long does a mehndi design last? +
A well-applied design lasts one to three weeks. The palms and soles take the deepest stain (two to three weeks); the back of the hand and feet stain lighter and fade faster.
How do I pick a design? +
Filter by minutes-to-apply, skill level, and occasion. A simple bel takes ten minutes; a royal bridal pattern takes ninety. Every design at My Mehndi Designs is tagged for time, skill, and occasion.
What's the difference between mehndi and henna? +
Henna is the plant and pigment; mehndi is the South Asian craft of applying it as decorative body designs. The dried, powdered leaves and the resulting stain are identical.
